Here are 5 so called ‘healthy foods’ that seriously suck at helping you melt body fat and actually aren’t that healthy either.
1. Bread
Love bread? Well I’m sorry but it SUCKS big time at melting body fat! In fact most wholemeal bread is actually mostly made with white refined flour (isn’t that what you are trying to avoid by opting for wholemeal instead of white bread in the first place?) Grains are not the best when looking for fat loss and actually aren’t that great for your health… check out the below video which will explain why…
Bread of any kind will raise insulin like you wouldn’t believe. This will lead to eventual fat gain and certainly halt most fat loss efforts… especially around the love handle area.
For every gram of carbs stored in your body, 3 grams of water gets stored. Drop the starchy carbs and you can easily lose 4-5 pounds of water weight within a few days. Lose the bread and lose the fat! I know some of you might be thinking that’s just water you’re losing, well that water is FULL of toxins and chemicals just waiting to cause your body harm… better out than in I’d say.
Vegetables (also a source of carbohydrate), fruits (also a source of carbohydrate), nuts & seeds are much better alternatives.
2. Rice cakes/Ryvita/crisp breads/cardboard!
Please re-read what I mentioned about bread. It all applies here! I don’t know what it is with diet clubs and calorie counters and how they get it SO wrong… but they do! I’m afraid all calories are not creatd equal. It is not as simple as eat less calories, lose more weight, especially over a long period of time where restricting calories can become very detrimental to health!
Although we are all humans, we react to food differently depending upon our hormonal state, environment, ethnicity and age (I could go on), 1 apple could cause 1 person to hold on to or even store fat, where as the next person could eat it and would have no issues with eating another 4! One size does not fit all I’m afraid.
Rice cakes and all their incarnations are just processed, crap food that will do nothing for long term fat loss or your health. Go for natural foods that grow out of the ground or on trees and bushes, Swim in the seas and run around freely.
3. Fruit (well… eating too much fruit can be)
Yes fruit is healthy, but too much fruit can be quite damaging (stay with me!)
Fruit is high in many vitamins, anti-oxidants and obviously a much better option than junk food BUT it is high in the natural sugar, Fructose. Too much of this can lead to fat gain, diabetes and what is called a ‘fatty liver’. Another good point to make is too much fruit, grains, sugary food will increase insulin in your body… the more insulin you produce, the quicker you age… BAD TIMES!
As a rule your day should consist of 70-80% veggies and 20-30% fruit for your carbohydrate intake. I try to keep to the 2-3 pieces of fruit a day and always have a small handful of nuts to even out my blood sugar response and always ensure I pile in the green veggies at meal times. If it’s not organic ensure you wash your fruit before you eat it.
Many dieters make the mistake of eating HUGE fruit salads all day, snacking on fruit at the office abd when they egt hungry at night as it’s handy and as far as they know ‘good for fat loss’… then wonder why they aren’t dropping any fat.
Bottom line – eat fruit, but don’t go over board and always try to eat some protein & fat with it to help regulate the insulin response (nuts are a great option).
4. Fruit Juice
Liquid calories will help your body store fat like you would not believe if your body is so inclined. If too much whole natural fruit can slow your fat loss down, what do you think bowl full’s of fruit squeezed into 1 drink will do for your flat tummy quest? That’s right, zilch! I also need to mention that concentrated fruit juices are seriously bad for your health, along with ANY low calorie, low sugar, added sweetener alternative which is also supposedly ‘healthy’. Go for whole natural foods and stick to that state of the art health giving drink… WATER!
Oh and while we are on the subject steer well clear of Coca Colas vitamin water… high sugar, low grade synthesised vitamins, guaranteed to make you feel lousy. Listen to Coca Cola for once and grab the real thing

5. Breakfast cereals
I would like you to again read the top 2 foods that suck for fat loss (and health).
All CEREALS including Special K and the others like it will do nothing for long term fat loss and health. They are all processed foods that have to have vitamins and minerals actually added back in to them after the cooking process… when you see ‘fortified with…’ on the your box of cornflakes it’s is not extra their giving you! Don’t even get me started on skimmed milk (needless to say it is utter crap!)
Go for nutrient dense foods like organic free range eggs, fish, veggies, nuts and seeds for the REAL breakfast of champions!
The BIG picture
A great way to see what is actually truly healthful for the human race is to watch animals in their natural habitat.
How many fat zebras have you seen in the wild? How many wild lions have you seen or heard of with cancer? I would say VERY few to virtually none!
How many fat pet dogs or cats have you seen? How many dogs or cats have you heard owners say they died from cancer or something similar? Allot right?
If humans were to follow their ancestors and eat a diet that was actually natural to their species what do you think would happen? Less illness? Less disease? Less cancer? Less obesity?
You see we have only been eating the average western diet for a tiny fraction of our evolutionary past. The food we eat today is literally alien to our body… and I’m afraid it’s killing us… slowly.
How do we know this?
Well we are getting fatter and we are getting sicker, cancer and obesity related diseases are on the up and even with modern medicine we can’t seem to halt it.
The natural cure for fat loss and health?
A diet of fresh veggies, lean meat & fish, some fruit, nuts and seeds, plenty of water with the odd digression will lead you to new found energy, health and guess what, fat loss results would be pretty sweet too!
